Semrush Free Trial (2026): Seven Days, Used Properly

Published Jul 29, 2026Prices re-read Sep 22, 2026

The Semrush free trial lasts seven days, is for new users only, and covers the SEO, Starter and Pro+ plans. You enter a card, Semrush places a small charge to check it and refunds it straight away, and nothing is billed until the seven days end.

Those terms come from Semrush's pricing page and its Semrush One page, read on 22 September 2026. The trial is the cheapest way to answer the only question that matters — does Semrush's data fit your work — so it is worth planning rather than clicking around.

What the trial covers

The trial covers three of Semrush's four self-serve plans: SEO at $139 a month, Starter at $199 and Pro+ at $299. The Advanced plan at $549 shows "Subscribe or try custom plan" on its card instead of a free trial.

Which plan you trial matters, because the drawers differ. Trialling SEO shows you keyword research, Position Tracking and Site Audit with 500 daily keywords. Trialling Starter adds 50 AI prompts tracked daily. Trialling Pro+ adds historical data, multi-location tracking and 1,500 keywords. If you might need AI tracking, trial Starter; you can judge the SEO drawers there too. What each tier opens is laid out in our Semrush pricing breakdown.

How the card check works

Semrush asks for a card at the start of the trial. In the words of its pricing-page FAQ: "We will charge a nominal amount to your credit card to check its validity; once confirmed, it will be immediately refunded. Until your Semrush trial period ends you won't be charged."

The practical consequence is simple: if you do nothing, the plan starts billing when the trial ends. Put a reminder in your calendar for day six, the day before billing, and decide then. Semrush's FAQ says you can cancel, downgrade or upgrade at any time, unless you have custom terms.

A seven-day plan

Seven days is enough to test Semrush properly if each day has one job. This is the order we suggest, built around what the trial plans actually include:

Seven drawers

One job a day for the seven-day trial

  1. Day 1Set upProject, Site Audit, your keyword list.
  2. Day 2Check what you knowTen keywords against Search Console.
  3. Day 3CompetitorsYour two nearest, one missed keyword.
  4. Day 4The auditFix one real issue it found.
  5. Day 5AI visibilityStarter or Pro+ only.
  6. Day 6DecideWrite down what you used.
  7. Day 7Keep, change or cancelBefore the trial ends.
Drawn from the numbered plan in this section. Day six is marked because it is the last day to decide before billing starts.
  1. Day 1 — set up. Add your site as a project, start a Site Audit, and load your real keyword list into Position Tracking. The audit and the first rankings need time to fill in.
  2. Day 2 — check the numbers you already know. Look up ten keywords where you know your own clicks from Google Search Console. Semrush's volumes and positions won't match exactly — no tool's do — but they should tell a recognisable story.
  3. Day 3 — competitors. Run your two nearest competitors through the competitor-analysis reports and note one keyword or page you had missed.
  4. Day 4 — the audit. Read the finished Site Audit and fix one real issue it found. If every issue is noise, that tells you something.
  5. Day 5 — AI visibility (Starter or Pro+ only). Read how your tracked prompts fared and whether they reflect questions your buyers ask.
  6. Day 6 — decide. Write down what you used and what you didn't. If you opened two drawers out of ten, price the alternatives before the bill arrives.
  7. Day 7 — keep, change or cancel. Keep the plan, move to a lower one, or cancel before the trial ends.

The point of day six is that the trial answers a narrow question. You are not deciding whether Semrush is good; you are deciding whether you would miss it at $139 a month or more.

What to write down on day six

A trial ends well when the decision is written, not felt. On day six, answer these five questions in a note you can look at again when the first invoice arrives:

  • Which reports did I open more than once? Those are the drawers you would pay for.
  • Which did I never open? If AI visibility sat unread, the SEO plan is the cheaper fit.
  • Did the data match what I know? Compare Semrush's view of your own keywords with Search Console's.
  • How many people need a login? Each extra user starts at $45 a month.
  • Is 500 daily keywords enough? If not, Pro+ or a tool with a bigger tracking allowance.

If three or more answers point away from Semrush, the trial did its job: you found out for free. Price the same drawers elsewhere before keeping the plan.

What happens after seven days

If you keep the plan, billing starts at the price of the plan and billing period you chose. On monthly billing that is $139, $199 or $299 a month; on annual billing, $117.33, $165.17 or $248.17 a month for a year.

If you cancel, you can still keep a free account. Semrush's pricing page says a free account gets 10 requests a day to the Analytics reports, one project and 10 tracked keywords in Position Tracking — too little to run a site's SEO, enough to check the odd keyword.

Refunds after billing starts

Semrush handles refunds "according to our official refund policy", which its pricing page links to without summarising. We haven't reproduced that policy, so we quote no refund window.

That makes the day-six decision more important than any refund promise. Cancelling before the trial ends costs nothing; missing the date costs at least one billing period of the plan, and the trial is for new users only, so you cannot simply start another.

Trials elsewhere, for comparison

Semrush's seven days with a card sits in the middle of the field. SE Ranking offers 14 days with no card required. Ahrefs offers no trial at all, only Ahrefs Free for your own verified sites and a $29 Starter plan. Mangools offers a full refund within 48 hours of payment rather than a trial, and SpyFu a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Moz and Similarweb both advertise free trials too, but neither prints the trial's length on its pricing page, so we can't compare them here. If you plan to trial several tools, run them one after another rather than together: seven days is short, and two half-used trials tell you less than one used properly.

If Semrush's trial leaves you unconvinced, run SE Ranking's 14 days next; it asks for nothing up front. Our comparison of Semrush alternatives, trials included lists every tool's trial terms side by side, and the SE Ranking review covers the most direct alternative in detail.

Semrush free trial — quick answers

How long is the Semrush free trial?

Seven days. Semrush's Semrush One page marks the offer as available to new users only.

Do you need a credit card for the Semrush trial?

Yes. Semrush charges a nominal amount to check the card and refunds it immediately, then charges nothing until the trial ends.

Which Semrush plans have a free trial?

The SEO, Starter and Pro+ plans show "Try for free" on the pricing page. The Advanced plan offers a custom plan instead of a free trial.

What happens when the Semrush trial ends?

The plan you chose starts billing unless you cancel first. If you cancel, you can keep a free account with 10 Analytics requests a day, one project and 10 tracked keywords.

Can I get a longer Semrush trial?

Semrush's pricing page offers seven days. We have no extended trial or code to offer, and would be wary of anyone promising one.
